Adam und Eric’s Neuschottland Schwarz Black Lager by Garrison

While at the Halifax Seaport Market last weekend, I picked up a bottle of Adam und Eric’s Neuschottland Schwarz Black Lager by Garrison at the Garrison retail store (open at 8am on Saturdays!!!), the Winner of the 2011 Garrison Ultimate Brew-Off HomeBrew Challenge.

I don’t claim to be an expert on beer, beer tasting or beer styles.  I just love beer and am willing to try just about anything.  At the end of the day, the best I can really do is let you know whether or not I enjoyed the beer, based on my own tastes and preferences.

The Schwarzbier, an ebony lager, didn’t disappoint me.  The pour was dark, with ruby highlights showing through in the sun.  There was very little head, and the 1/4″ of tan head that did form disappeared quickly.  My initial impression was a slightly bitter taste with a crisp, clean finish.  The most notable flavour was bitter chocolate.  Overall, I enjoyed the brew and wish I had picked up another couple of bottles.

Well done guys!
